In June 2015 Applegarth gained planning permission for the following economic development. The plans have the potential to provide the locality with 25 new jobs, a range of educational facilities and a new exciting leisure facility for the local community.
The plan is unique, bringing together a number of new elements to the business to create what will be an award winning foodie destination!
For 4 years we have put these plans together, gaining planning permission for the Play Barn in 2012. What we understood however was that Applegarth was in a strong position to create something truly unique, albeit outside of our position to self finance. Having been approached on multiple occassions with the potential for Applegarth to provide a level of residential housing we found a path that would allow us to move forward with the idea. The build cost has been estimated at around £4.1m.
Applegarth is looking to incorporate the existing cabin village with a more permanent building accommodating a range of small artisan businesses. The development aims to house the finest makers in the area and provide Applegarth’s customers direct access to them,
With the continuing popularity of television programs based around cooking Applegarth aims to capitalise on the lack of facilities in the area with an exceptional new cookery school. With lessons delivered by a range of specialist chefs, students will be able to take lessons from basic knife skills to Asian cuisine
This development would seek to expand the farm shop in order to provide more products from Hampshire’s exceptional artisan producers. The shop will focus on more localised produce, incorporating produce from the farms own market garden. There will also be an increase in home produced foods.
Applegarth aims to expand its offering to incorporate a larger range of exceptional foods with a larger kitchen. The farm currently has capacity for 71 people internally - this development will bring this up to around 100 and include a private dining and meeting room. Applegarth will also include ‘dining pods’ where diners can eat outside in the market garden within private seating areas under shelter.
To include a fine food cafe area with newspapers, exceptional barista coffee and delicious Applegarth quality food- the play barn seeks to deliver a place you would be happy to meet up and have lunch in with or without the kids.
Linked to the play barn an outdoor play area is proposed, providing children with a challenging range of play equipment to engage them all afternoon. It is anticipated that natural materials will be favoured above bright primary colours to retain the rural character.
